So who was right? Ian Gray said there are now 3,000 less teaching jobs since the SNP took charge, Alec Salmond did not dispute this but rather blamed Labour controlled councils. A rather odd statement and another example of dear old Alec's infantile form of politics in which you take all the credit for good things, but never take responsibility for bad things. "Big boys did it and ran away..."

This is one of my concerns re. this election. Both SNP and Labour blame each other for fall in teacher numbers.
From my naive point of view.....SNP says to cooncils .....agree to a cap on Council Tax and we'll give you more from central funds....if you don't agree we'll cut your funding. Local councils "have to" agree but then decide that the "SNP money" which the government "wants" to go into education ends up elsewhere.
In effect both parties are culpable and both parties can wash their hands and blame the other....either way ....we lose out.

Further....Gray has a cheek re. drop in teacher numbers.....was it not many Labour controlled councils who made the cuts?.....ahhhhh but they had to, the'll say, because of SNP central funding policy.
But hey....let's have a 5 (or 2) year freeze on Council Tax and that'll sort it out!
