Does anyone have any ideas about how to teach year 4/5 about muscles. It is part of the moving and growing unit in science. I have always left this bit out because I can never think of any sensible or meaningful activity for them.

I explained the basics and then asked them to jump, crouch, throw etc without using muscles to move arms etc. They then made a "muscle" using two pieces of cardboard and rubber bands. I think it was in TES resources, possibly from Hamilton Trust. It worked well.
    Hope this helps a little.

  3. Make a model of a muscle pair using split pins and elastic bands.
