Schools which do not pay Supply Teachers in accordance with Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document.

Discussion in 'Supply teaching' started by JB26, Mar 6, 2011.

  1. I am a primary supply teacher who worked 2 days a week for a school (not through an agency) which was paying me for 6:00 hrs for a full day's work. This was only on my regular days when I was planning certain lessons. If I was called in to cover at short notice I would be paid for 5:15 hrs as there were no lessons to plan.
I checked with my union and was told that supply teachers should be paid for 6:30 hrs for a day's work in accordance with Teachers' Pay & Conditions. I therefore politely approached the school on this matter. The school checked with Personnel and found that I should indeed be paid for 6.5hrs/day.
The school has now stopped using me and is paying someone else 5:15hrs/day who is happy to be getting the work.
I don't expect to be working there again, but can anything be done to bring this school/LEA into line? Surely Teachers' Pay & Conditions exist to prevent this kind of abuse?
    Has anyone else experienced this?

In my LA, we get paid for hours worked +20 mins planning & marking (divided 10 mins am & 10 min pm). Even in the school with the longest hours -6 hrs 10mins (20 mins incl) doesn't come anywhere near the 6:30 you quote.
I feel you might have'scuppered yourself' here & there's little chance of
as budgets are tight everywhere & they'll simply move to CS or HLTA cover!
