School year - how many weeks?

Discussion in 'Secondary' started by SparkleBox, Mar 11, 2007.

  1. Hi all,

    Random question...

Does anyone know how many weeks is the minimum for a secondary school year?

I.e. How many weeks must pupils be in school in an academic year?

Would be greatful if you could help!

    Thanks :)

    SB:)

190 days, so the min number of weeks would be 38, but you tend to get part weeks as well, plus with INSET it's probably looking more like at least 39 full weeks.

  4. That's great!

Many thanks for your help :)

I thought it was 195 days for the kids and 200 for the teachers which included 5 Baker days. So 39 weeks in school and 13 hols for the kids. Only 12 weeks hol for the teachers.

  6. 190 pupil days and 195 teacher days

We have 197 days this academic year, including INSETS. Think I will demand 2 days off then!!!

Chica77 - are you in state school, employed under standard school teachers' pay & conditions?
If so then you can only be required to work on 195 days - so I suspect you've missed some somewhere. Did you think about Bank Holiday Monday?

  9. ......and just to clarify, the 190/195 are maxima not minima
