    Hi all,
We want to put on a mini version of the 'Greatest Showman' as our end of year production. I will write a new script and we were going to use karaoke backing tracks for 4/5 songs. Question is, does anyone know anything about licensing for this sort of thing?
Normally we have bought into productions and just buy a license.

Have you googled licence request for the greatest showman? You would probably need to apply to Fox music. However I don’t know that you will be successful. Even if they will permit a performance there are usually strict rules about paying for the script and not changing it, or words of songs, and the cost is likely to be £££. I would like to think I am completely wrong...

I've had an almighty google search and can't find anything! From what I have found loads and loads of schools have put on their own versions.

I doubt very much that you will be able to do what you are hoping to do. @jubilada is right that there are usually strict rules governing what a licence will permit you to do - especially to a high-profile West End show. And true, the costs are likely to be high.

    I suggest you think again...
  5. Be interesting what your outcome was, I have the exact same question for our school production this year (should the kids be back at school in time!)

There are lots of modified scripts on TES that I'm happy to pay for just wondered if you need a licence to sing along to 4/5 youtube songs.

It's not a West End show as mentioned above, not sure how much difference that makes.

Sadly, I don't think any Year 6 productions will happen this year. I do think they'll be back, but only for a couple of days a week - every school will be different and do what works for them. There just won't be time to produce a 'grand production' the way we usually do … and we certainly couldn't socially distance on our tiny stage!!!! I'm vaguely thinking along the lines of an up-graded class assembly, spread out in the hall - a couple of special songs and everyone taking their turn to say one special memory of primary school. Hopefully some techy person can film it and stream to parents!

Perhaps they could sing my version of a quite famous song.
    LET IT GO. ( AWAY)

The grass grows green in my garden tonight
Not a footprint to be seen
    A kingdom of isolation
And I feel like I could scream

My mind is howling like a swirling storm inside
Can’t keep me in, heaven knows I've tried
Don't let them in, don't let them see
Be the loner you always have to be
Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know
    Well, now they know

Let it go, let it go
    Can't hold it back anymore
Let me go, let me go
Go away and slam the door
I don't care what they're going to say
    Let Corona rage on
A cold never bothered me anyway

Let me go, let me go
    Can't hold it back anymore
Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door

Let it go (go, go, go go, go go, go go, go, go, go go)

    Let it go

    Let it go

    Let it go

    It's funny how some distance
    Makes everything seem small
And the fears that once controlled me
Can't get to me at all!

It's time to see what I can do
To test my parents and break through
No right, no wrong, no rules for me I'm free!

Let it go, let it go
I am one with my PHONE and SKYPE
Let it go, let it go
    You'll never see me cry!

    Here I stand
    And here I'll stay
    Let Corona rage on!

My shower splashes through the air onto the ground
My bathroom time is the only peace that I have found
And one thought crystallises like an icy blast
    we're never going back
The past is in the past!

Let it go, let it go
And I'll rise like the break of dawn
Let it go, let it go
    Going out is gone !

    Here I stand
    In the light of day
    Let Corona rage on
A cold never bothered me anyway!

It’s good to inject some humour into leaving assemblies, but I assume you are suggesting this ironically.

    Of course !
