So do any of you have any exciting plans for the school holidays after a few days lying in late? Anyone coming to Yorkshire? It's not so hot here as the south this week - just purrrrfect, purrr.

My plan? Go to work... and again on Tuesday... and again on Wednesday.

Then do nothing at all on Thursday.

I think that for many, top of the list will be keeping cool, if possible, next week.

I'll be cool. I'll be frozen, like I am every other sodding day at work when the office fascist has the aircon on full blast because she's too hot.
But on Thursday I'll be toasty :D.

I'll be joining younger daughter as she house/puppy/cat sits for her line manager's family, in Solihull.
Will have a few days out...probably Crosby beach.... maybe a day in the Lakes (have to get to the Langdale Chase for lunch!)
Anglesey show is cancelled for me as the horse section is off because of equine flu - so no horsey things all hols... tho might arrange pony carriage driving day for the Solihull kiddies and my last pupil as my friend runs child taster sessions.
Then just 2 afternoon work sessions first week in Sept and then .... 2 week cruise to the western Med in a suite on a super ship (Celebrity Silhouette) and no @EmanuelShadrack I am spending the children's inheritance - it's not that I am minted. Reckoned there was a fair chance this might be the last year I am 'fit' enough to cruise. (Will have a butler....but no idea what to do with one! )

Working. As I will be for most of the next two months. Sigh. I do miss the Summer Holidays. And next week, spare a thought for me at funeral services in black jacket and tights, because I have to look Smart. (I will also be wearing other clothes too - not just jacket and tights. That sounds rather niche.)
But then, in September, I will go away for a week, perhaps to Suffolk, when it will be peaceful and restful and all the children will be back at school. ;)

Me too, since I left teaching for a non-teaching role a few years ago. But I do not miss the Summer Holidays. I do not particularly like the Summer heat (or the constant summer rain we often get throughout August) but I do like the cooler but still warm days of September. So I have two weeks leave for then which will mean more to me then having August off.

Off to a theme park or two. Being a spy at Casino Royale (Secret Cinema). Day trips. Build a robot or two...

Have you considered measured and controlled violence to resolve this tricky situation?

I am a married man, father of children, living in retirement. What makes you think I will have nothing to do on Monday?

Yes, those of us in 'retirement' don't have a long summer holiday, for sure.

Alternatively, you could take in an electric fire and keep it near your desk - or a hot water bottle kept close to the chest? Warm socks? A thick blanket to wrap around you? Or a stiff whisky? Getting sillier and siller. You were the only person who enjoyed yesterday whilst the rest of us ran with water and didn't know where to put ourselves.
