I am after some advice please on school dog insurance. I am introducing my puppy into our school community from September (after months of very careful research and planning), but the only thing I am finding tricky is finding insurance that will cover the dog in school. Most ‘normal’ providers won’t cover this and the specialist ones that do are very expensive and don’t cover the basics (the dog’s health, vets bills etc).

To anyone who has a school dog or knows of one, I’d be very grateful if they could let me know who they have insurance with?

    Thank you.

As you say most pet insurance won't cover a dog taken to work - either for liability/injury whilst at work or for their health according to the wording of the policies

It will be expensive. Have you tried to insurers of dog trainers and behaviourists (eg Petplan sanctuary, Cliverton, Protectivity). They tend to have an option of third party liability for your own dogs in the work place, in a training/behaviourist situation, and so may be able to offer bespoke cover.

What is it you want to cover? Do you mean the cost of vets bills for the dog? Or something else?

I was thinking kvw88 meant for public (staff and pupil) liability

Talk to your SBM about what insurance the school has already and whether the dog can be added to it.
You shouldn't need to pay it yourself.

Then, if you want normal pet insurance, then just go with whatever you'd choose normally.

How do you deal with allergies ? If there is anyone in school with a nut allergy, nuts are an absolute no, no. How do we deal with people allergic / or scared of dogs ?
