school closed for strike, staff asked to work different day?

Discussion in 'Pay and conditions' started by nikkila, Jun 30, 2011.

  1. A local school was closed for the day due to 5/7 teachers striking. All support staff told not to come in, but make up time at one of the september professional days. Is this right? A friend of mine is a TA there, is not happy and would like to know where she stands.

We assume your friend is in a Union. He or she needs to discuss their contract with the Union. in these situations.

As previous poster said she needs to get on to union immediately at regional level. If the head closes the school, the time cannot be made up for anyone on a different day. This is illegal.

    Some heads are unbelievable

In 35 years have experienced 14 HT's, and yes, some were unbelievable.
    Union, this really is bad.
