Scarborough Fair

    I do not understand why Gavin Williamson should be criticized for going to visit his family in Scarborough at the height of the A level debacle.

    I like to think of him with a bucket and spade building elaborately magnificent sandcastles on the beach in front of The Spa and then sitting in a deckchair watching the incoming tide washing them all away.

    Bit like his career really.

    He’ll go out in a blaze of knickerbocker glory.

    And he can drown his sorrows while eating it, the Harbour Bar has just applied for a licence to sell booze.

    True. And I suppose the answer is that we're angry he didn't respond when he was warned, and that we're worried about losing more loved ones thanks to his school reopening plans.

    I hope I'm wrong. I hope nobody dies as a result of schools opening to thousands.

    But what if I'm right?
