    From 1st August 2016, it will be legal in the American state of Texas for students and staff to conceal-carry loaded and licensed handguns on university and college campuses offering four-year courses. A year later this law will be extended to junior colleges.

    Nothing can possibly go wrong with this plan.

    I wonder how many of you who bang on against the gun laws have ever visited the US, or been off the beaten track there. Many years ago, I was given a lift all the way from St. Marys in Glacier National Park all the way to the west entrance of Yellowstone. We weren't on the interstate so the road we were travelling, for hours, had hardly any traffic on it. It's easy to understand why someone living off roads like this feels the need to keep some form of protection to hand.

    That doesn't describe a university campus though, which is what the article is about.
