I work in SEN and I have been involved in the process of having children removed from their homes and placed in care. It is an extremely traumatic process but necessary in many cases. The main reason for it is always drink or drug related.

However, once a child has been placed in a secure home and a period of sustained safety and routine has been established the behaviour of a child in a classroom setting shows a marked improvement. Children need boundaries, security and a settled home life in order to progress in all aspects of their development, education being one of the key aspects. It is only through education that these children will be able to live better lives and not become the next generation of unemployed goalless young adults.
