Keith Michell, the Shakespearean actor, theatre director and unlikely pop star (as 'Captain Beaky' in 1977), has died at the age of 89.

Many will remember him for his portrayal of Henry VIII in the landmark British television series, 'The Six Wives of Henry VIII' but for me his most outstanding performance was a Captain James Cook in the Channel 4 mini series of the same name.

A splendid fellow - who released some good singles on Spark 1970 onwards, and of course an LP following Henry VIII film.

I saw him in Irma La Douce on the London stage in 1958 and thought he was wonderful.
