Returning to England

Discussion in 'Pay and conditions' started by Hugh_Spring, Apr 1, 2012.

  1. I have been overseas for 15 years but will soon be returning to England to teach secondary mathematics. I have a total of 17 years experience as a secondary maths teacher, 10 years as HOD. What salary / pay scale level could I reasonably expect as a secondary maths teacher in England?

Do you have a job lined up yet?
There is no entitlement to more than M1 on the qualified teachers' payscale but you would probably be applying for HPD positions and will no doubt want to negotiate a higher starting point. Given that your subject is in demand in most areas, you should be ina good position for negotiating.
You need to aim for M5 or M6 so that you can then apply to pass through Threshold at the earliest opportunity (with 2 years performance Management reviews) to get onto the Upper pay Scale.
make sure you bring Police Clearance documentation, officially translated and certified if applicable, so that the issuing of an enhanced CRB (Criminal records Bureau ) clearance is not held up.
