Hello, I have been out of teaching for 9 years after only two patchy years of teaching. What do I do in order to return? I am not having much luck with applications. Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Your main problem is lack of recent experience. Try to get supply work as a way back in.

    .

Unless you are a graduate teacher of secondary Maths, able to move anywhere in the country, this may be tricky, since this long gap means that you have neither the experience of current syllabuses and school practices, nor a recent relevant reference. Maths is in such demand, however (as are a few other subjects in some areas) that even the gap may not pose much of a problem.

Doing some supply work, if available, is one way in.

    Be warned, however:

No more Pay Portability, no more pay scale, no more automatic moving up the scale.
