Can anyone explain how that great democratic institution the Scottish school can 'deliver' responsible citizens? At every turn citizenship is being defined in terms of society's current anxieties by the chattering classes. e.g. environment, bullying, sexual orientation, health, crime, obesity etc.etc.There is no legal framework to hold it and give it meaning. Into this vacuum steps the Scottish school - an institution not known for its democratic mores. Listen up kids! This is what it means to be a citizen. Such a top down 'citizenship' is worthless and maintains the very irresponsible response it is designed to get rid off. Our current setup at national and school level would not survive it we did really have 'responsible citizens'.
