31st May for a September start, 31st October for a January start and end of Feb for an after Easter start in the state sector although apparently in the independent sector 1 full term's notice is the norm.

  3. is it possible to aim to leave work after oct half term hols and hand in notice in july giving them plenty of notice? or do you always have to leave at the end of a term and not half term?

  4. No you cannot leave at half term only at the end of term. There is nothing stopping you asking your headteacher but there is no obligation for him/her to agree to it.

If you leave in July do you still get paid for the summer holidays?

Yes if you put 31st August as your resignation date and have a permanent contract.

Resignation Dates: Normally teachers can only terminate their employment at the end of the term, and 2 months notice is required (or 3 months in the Summer). So there are just three normal deadlines for resignations to be received in writing for the end of therm. They are: February 28th (29th) for the end of the Spring Term (normally Easter)
May 31st for the end of the Summer Term
October 31st for the end of the Autumn Term (Christmas)
If you wish to be released from your contract at other times, it might be possible
