Reinstatement of governing body (from an IEB)

    Hi,

I'm a parent of a kid in a secondary community school and very interested in becoming a school governor, however the school currently has an IEB in place that is trying to force through a conversion to a multi academy Trust (MAT). There are two members of this particular MAT also on the IEB and this same IEB chair and MAT members are also IEB on some other schools. This particular chair and her MAT members have been trying hard to convert several schools in the area to an academy but have been unsuccessful.

At the time of the IEB putting into place, our secondary school was in 'requires improvement'. The above MAT then provided 3 different heads over 3 years. I was
not a parent at this school at the time so unaware of the situation.

The school has now changed to good status but the community feels that this is because of the hard work of the teachers and students, not the IEB

We as a community want to make the decision over becoming an academy however we need to reinstate a governing body to be able to investigate thoroughly whether becoming an academy is a good move.

Does anyone have any experience where a school had an IEB and a governing body was reinstated?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The LA will have put the IEB in place after application to the secretary of state.
At it's formation, an exit strategy should also have been considered.
It's highly unlikely that the school has got to good without good governance, so the IEB must have played a part.
Any IEB member who is already working for/has an interest in a particular MAT should declare this and may need to leave discussions surrounding MAT status.

PS whilst the community get consulted, the decision to convert is a governor/RSC one!
