Reading schemes.

Discussion in 'Primary' started by netsy2, Sep 8, 2011.

  1. We have been given a budget to purchase a new reading scheme for our 4-9 lower school. We have been using Oxford Reading tree and Storyworlds with a mixture of other bits and pieces for years now.
What is the latest thing out there? What is good? What would you recommend?

You could look at read, write, inc. I wouldn't use it as a whole phonics teaching scheme, but the reading books going up in phonics order are quite good.

  3. Look at Collins Big Cat and the new Bugs scheme by Pearson.

  4. OUP have a new phonics based scheme; Floppy's Phonics. There are Dandelion Books, Follifoot Farm (formerly Jelly & Bean), Sounds Discovery have a decodable book series.
Are you looking to get Dfe matched funding for decodable books? If you are then only schemes in the ESPO catalogue will be eligible. I don't know if the catalogue has been issued yet.
