Reading Interventions for KS4 - PRU

I work at a PRU and typically our students arrive during their KS4.

All of our current cohort have reading and spelling ages below their chronological ages.

I am looking for good reading intervention programmes or quality ideas that acknowledge their low literacy levels but also recognises their chronological age. Our students can spot primary material at 50 paces!

    All useful suggestions gratefully received.

Depends what you're looking for. Dockside is pretty good for very weak (phonics level), but may be more KS3 age appropriate than KS4 (but is designed to be not too babyish). Rising Stars definitely have other good books/series that are age-appropriate (such as the Survival series, including Runaway by Pete Guppy). So do Badger Learning and Barrington Stoke. Developing a reading for pleasure culture with disengaged learners at this age can be more effective than specific interventions (which they may resist)… Have you thought of subscribing to a magazine or newspaper?
