Reading ages

Discussion in 'Special educational needs' started by MattMiles, Feb 8, 2012.

  1. Our school is on a literacy drive, and some discussion has arisen with regards to the reading age measurements. It is all well and good saying a pupil has a reading age x years above or below their actual age, but if you are catering for their needs it would be helpful if we knew what an x year old is capable of.

Does anyone have examples of what a piece of reading for an 8/9/10 etc year old looks like? This will help when differentiating resources as the teachers will at least know what a pupil can access.

    Cheers in anticipation
