Your timing couldn't be more fortunate.
If you are able to take your maternity leave from the first day of the second half of the summer term (i.e. presuming baby doesn't come sooner or you aren't off with pregnancy-related illness in that last few weeks) then you can take the full year's maternity, you can hand in your notice any time you like during that year, right up to May 31st, with a leaving date of August 31st.
To ensure that you keep your full entitlement you have to work for 13 weeks, but this includes holidays, so you can return on the first day of May half term 2013, and work the 13 weeks that sees you through to the end of August, so effectively teaching just 7 weeks but getting paid for the full half-term and being released at the end of it.

  2. Marvellous. Thank you!
Secondly, am I correct in thinking you can't do any other paid work whilst on maternity leave, such as exam marking...? Couldn't see anything on it in the FAQs.
