Im an nqt and will be applying for professional formation leading to qtls this month. The whole process takes a few months. Once u have qtls it is equivalent to qts. With qts u can teach almost anywhere in the world ao its worth going for qtls (if your pgce is in FE and not secondary)
To clarify QTS status is mainly applicable within the UK and can be used to teach within the EEC. It is not recognised as an appropriate teacher qualification in many countries such as Australia, Canada and New Zealand. Many Post graduate teaching qualifications from recognised universities have a stronger international currency
