Puzzle ... we cannot agree on the answer

Discussion in 'Personal' started by ResourceFinder, Jun 14, 2011.

  1. How many letters on a standard keyboard use no straight lines?

We have 2 possible answers so I am keen to read a consensus
  2. On mine:
Debating Q- it has a teeny tiny thing I'm not sure qualifies?
  3. 4 - O,S,C,U
Im not sure what the other answer could be unless im completely misreading the question!?

    You agree with me

My daughter wants to include U and J but I think the edges are straight

    OSC. 3 for me!
  6. So, impulce why did you not include J?
  7. Me too. U quite clearly has two straight lines and a curve.

I think my S has a segment in the middle bit, actually. Probably depends on the font used.
  9. My U has 2 straight lines and a curve; my J is a straight horizontal, a straight vertical and a curve.
  10. My keyboard is different so I am am no help.
Mine is a straight vertical and a curve. Like an umbrella.

Just looking at my laptop keyboard...before reading the suggested answers, I came up with an answer of 4.....
O,S,C and the number key 0 The other number keys don't count because either the number or the symbol on the same key has a straight line.

In which case, I'd include the 0, 3, 6, 8 and 9 from the number keypad part of my keyboard!
  15. surely the definition of a straight line would dictate that it is a line that is straight from one end to the other. on that basis my answer would be...
  16. what about '@'? 8 * and the windows key

J and U contain straight lines - with curves at the end!
    On my laptop:
the @ key is a dual key with ' which is a small straight line
the 8 and the * are on the same key - and the * is made up of straight lines.

Oh and the Windows key has a vertical straight line...and a wavy horizontal line ...but it is debatable whether they really count as lines!
  19. J and U do not contain straight lines. A capital 'A' clearly contains 3 staright lines for example, J and U have straight sections but cannot be classified as containing straight lines
