Progression advice please....

    Summary....Head of dept is leaving...school advertises on tes...slt have not approached any coordinators or 2nd in dept about 'naturally' applying for the position...career progression....

    What do people think of this?

    Slt way of saying no one in house is good enough?

    Should those who feel like this is the next step apply in house or elsewhere for a fresh start?

    If you think you're up for the post then put together your application explaining why, prepare hard for interview and be judged, along with any other candidates, on a level playing field. You know far better than members of the SLT whether you're ready for the step up.

    Inviting someone to apply would be seen as bias if they then got the job..

    Wasn't it the rule that vacancies have to be internally advertised?

    If you fancy it, go for it. You can't just apply for the jobs you think your name is already nailed on to. No job application is ever a waste of time. The preparation is a valuable exercise for you and it indicates your ambition to your current SLT. If you are anxious about looking foolish to SLT or colleagues, who may not consider you suitable, you need to develop a thicker skin. Get writing!
