Summary....Head if dept is leaving...school advertises on tes...slt have not approached any coordinators or 2nd in dept about 'naturally' applying for the position...career progression....

What do people think of this?

Slt way of saying noone in house is good enough?

Should those who feel like this is the next step apply in house or elsewhere for a fresh start?

If you think that you meet the job spec then apply, if not don't.

They're playing the game of seeing who will apply. They may not want to mention it to you as you may assume it is a shoo in. In their situation I would make staff aware of the vacancy but would not go out of my way to encourage individual staff to apply but assure them that their application will be considered alongside all the others.
