Does anyone have any idea how Progress 8 can be accurately calculated for Computer Science? Do any of your schools use this measure as a comparison method? Thank you.

SISRA are 100% correct with their published article that your cannot sensibly compare individual subjects (with the exception of maths) to the compound attainment 8 elements in which they "count"

To the original poster. This might not be exactly what you want or need, or you might decide its a load of rubbish, but if you need to show your SLT something, this might help and at least it wont be too much work for you.

Attainment 8 elements are not the only DfE source of KS2 SATs to KS4 attainment available. They also provide individual subject KS2-4 transition matrices.

The data in these matrices can be manipulated to create attainment 8 type curves for each individual subject.

Using these it is actually possible to get a progress 8 "type" score for individual subjects such as computer science and to at least to compare the performance of your cohort to a "national" cohort of similar KS2 prior attainment in just your subject.

The link below leads to some free spreadsheet resources which will do this for most of the 1-9 GCSEs, with full explanations and user instructions.

    Hope it helps.
