Private tuition

Discussion in 'Supply teaching' started by Rhodders, Jan 3, 2012.

  1. Hi,

I'm currently doing supply work as I graduated last summer and have been asked by a few friends to tutor some of their family members. I am interested in doing this but having no experience and searching on here I still need a few questions answered.

I am a qualified secondary science teacher by the way:

1.) What should I find out? (Do I ask what they are struggling with/examples of what they struggle with/exam boards?)
2.) How do I approach it? (Bring a load of past papers and work through them?)
3.) How long would you advise per week? (Seeing as they're already in school 5 days per week)
    4.) Anything else?

Any wisdom from people that have started tutoring and know how I should approach my first sessions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much, most helpful. :)
