What did people think about Lucy Powell (ex shadow education secretary) bringing up the fact that private schools are boycotting the new GCSEs and entering students for IGCSE instead? From my own experience teaching here and abroad I know it is far easier to get good grades in the IGCSE. In fact if you look at Pearsons grade statistics over 80% of UK entries get an A or A* in the IGCSE! The purpose of the exam system is to discriminate between students ability. This can only be done fairly if they sit the same exams. If IGCSE was equivalent to GCSE there would be no need for it to exist! In my opinion we are letting down our youngsters by having an unfair exams system!
