We've notice a huge bump in printing cost lately, and curious to see if anyone else is also having this. We've put it down to having to photocopy text books, which now tend to have a lot more images inside. But we're amazed at how much of our budget spend is on printing paper and ink! Love to see if we're in the normal area or not.

Do check to see how far you are infringing copyright on this.... the bills could be a lot higher than the photocopying.......

I phrased this a little poorly, textbooks is the wrong term. We use a lot of online resources and digital books, that are licensed and are allowed to be printed them off. The photocopying has gone up because the staff are often copying a blank sheet or page instead of printing a new one.

Who has access to the printer/copier?

How long before this thread becomes advice and then an advert?

So - perhaps you could consider allocating photocopying cost to Dept budgets. Will need an accounting system which your photocopy co may have available. Would need careful introduction - different needs in different Depts and as we found it gets complex when one member of staff works in several depts.

Yep, it’s the same in our school but measures are being implemented to reduce this which includes a ‘credit’ system being introduced for students.
Staff are also being advised to print what is necessary.

Ooo, i kind of like this. But from our side it's more the staff with heavy printing. I'm not sure if a credit system would go down too well with them :/
