Primary Training Bursary 2011-2012 - is there one?

Discussion in 'Thinking of teaching' started by Jinwin, Feb 4, 2011.

  1. Right - I have found UWE now (it's listed as WEST OF ENGLAND,UNIVERSITY OF!) but it doesn't show any PGCE courses there! Argh!

  2. I'm just distraught. I have been working for this for the last 3 years. I am trying to finish my MSc dissertation a the moment. We have just spent £3500 on my MSc fees and there is noway we can afford another £3500 for teacher training. I was relying on the bursary. I don't know what to do now.

By the way where are finding figures for each institution and training places? I have found the link to past years but can't find tis years.

  3. That link brings me back to this page or if pasted directly into the internet address line says the file is not found.

  4. That's really odd........it works as a clickable link for me, I've just checked it again, is anyone else having problems with the link?

  5. Success - thanks..

  6. Am feeling exactly the same. I am married with 3 children (aged between 9 and 4). I will have to give up my work in order to complete the PGCE and we were relying on the training bursary to replace some of my lost income. My husband has an ok salary but not enough for us to meeting our outgoings and pay for the childcare I don't have to have at the moment because I am at home. I already have a post-graduate qualification (I trained to be a solicitor after leaving university) so am now worried that I won't even get any support via student loans or grants. Looks my dream that I have been working towards for the past few years will have to go on hold until the situation changes. I was so excited about being offered a place to do teacher training (albeit conditiona!l)

  7. hi sorry, if I am quoting somebody but I didn't know how to post!!!
If I am doing a PGCE 5-11 with specialism in Modern foreign language, is there a chance I will get a bursary because I am confused!
    Thanks!

  8. No, as you are training in the primary phase, which attracts no bursary. The only way you can get bursary is if you do a Middle Year PGCE (KS2 and KS3) in MFL, or secondary PGCE.
