Primary Art Teacher NQT

Discussion in 'Trainee and student teachers' started by AnnaLetts, May 7, 2012.

  1. Hi there,

I have found a couple of posts for Art teacher's in primary schools i.e. teachers that teach art across the age ranges, rather than being class teacher's with an art specialism.

I have QTS but have yet to complete an NQT year. However, I have been teaching in independent schools since gaining QTS. The posts I have seen are in state maintained schools and would really like to apply.

I am wondering, is it possible to take up a position as a primary art teacher and for this to count as NQT induction?

Or, do i have to do NQT first as a regular primary class teacher (which I did my PGCE in)?

Or is it possible that an NQT year is not necessary at all to be a primary art teacher?

From what I understand, it is not possible to do a primary PGCE specifically in teaching art (you have to do primary with art as a specialism I think).

Is this something i should ask the individual school about or the LEA?

Many thanks for any advice on this,

    Anna

Any post of a term or longer counts towards induction and teachers trained in one phase can serve induction in another. You need to discuss this with the school and whether the post is suitable for a statutory induction

  4. If you have been working for some time in independent schools as a teacher then, under the new induction statutory guidance, it may be possible to serve a reduced inductuion, but it would depend on the LA and the level of experience you have. A post such as the one you describe could still be suitable for induction, but the LA would have to determine this.
