Primary and Sport Premium - what are people doing for this year?

    Hi

I'm new to this particular role, I was Reading Co-Ordinator last year (!!), so I'm not 100% sure as to what I should be looking at doing/getting for our school.

We have some training booked in for near the end of October (I think!), but I want to try and get a feel for what is needed especially as I think the funding has increased for this year. Is this correct?

    Thks

    Becky

    Ha ha

I fell out of love with teaching a while back, but I got my mojo back and as a reward I was given PE and ICT as well as my class o_O

It looks like we didn't go into great depths with this last year, but we are trialing a resource called Fitness 4 Fun this year. Do a search for it and you should find all of the details.

    Hi Babs

Thank so much for your help, but when I search in google there are loads of web pages referring to Fitness 4 Fun.

Could you please tell me which one it is.

    Thks

    Becky

    Hi Babs

Further to my previous post, have you bought in any professional bodies to teach PE to the children or staff?

Can this be paid for with the Sport Premium?

    Thks

    Becky

    Hi Becky

No problem at all. That is what these forums are about.

Aaah we use Bing in school so if you search in this one it is usually the first one in the list. Failing that just type fitness4fun.co.uk to go to the web site.

With regard to bought in services we do have a team come in to do multi sports with the children, but I don't know how much this is because it is supplied by our LEA.

    Good luck for Sept!!

    Hi Becky

I've worked in 2 primary schools and both have used the sports premium to purchase external sports specialists. The teachers observed and taught alongside the specialist. Works very well IMO.

There is currently a thread on the headteacher board discussing a similar question.
You could have a nosy there and see what people are doing as well.

You can use for coaches I think...but as CPD for staff, not to cover ppa. But it might have changed

The Sports Fund money is given to schools in order to raise the profile of sport in schools and increase participation levels for children. So it can be used to provide extra curricular clubs by bringing in sports coaches and it can be used to improve teacher knowledge within the curriculum, as already mentioned, to provide CPD opportunities eg specialist coaches who work alongside the staff. It is definitely NOT to be used to pay for PPA cover. There are guidelines and suggestions for how schools can use the money and details of how you spend your school's allocation should be clearly available on the school website.
