I work as an AH in a large Primary School and I am looking to move into my first DT role in the near future. Having worked as a member of my SLT for a number of years, taught for 12 years, completed the Leadership Pathways Course and led and managed a number of different subjects and change initiatives across the school I now feel ready to move to the next stage in my career.
Having looked at a number of different Personal Specs I know that I have gained the vast majority of skills needed to fulfil these roles, including experience of curriculum change, managing 9 members of staff, working on sections of the SEF, significant experience of working with data and more recently being trained as a Designated Child Protect Officer.
My question to the experienced Heads out there is whilst I wait for the ideal job to be advertised what more can I do to prepare myself for the next role. Any advice would be gratefully received.

    Download this
and draw up a chart on six pages (one for each) and see what it is that you already have experience of, and where you have gaps, so you can identify the areas taht you need to strengthen.
i know that it's 8 years old now, but it is nonetheless all that we have that identifies what a Head should know and be able to do.
    Best wishes

I do Application and Interview one-to-ones, and also contribute to the Job Application Seminars. We look at application letters, executive summaries and interviews, with practical exercises that people really appreciate.
I shall be doing the Win That Teaching Job seminar on Saturday February 25th, and also the Moving into Headship or SLT seminar on Saturday 17th March.
