Preparing children for the Arithmetic tests

I'm wondering how other schools are going to prepare their children for the arithmetic papers next year.

We are a 2 form entry school and have a wide mix of children. We are wondering about a phonics type approach in KS2 where children have a 15 minutes mental arithmetic lesson each day, in arithmetic ability groups across the key stage, in addition to normal maths lessons. To be honest I'm not sure if this would work or not. I would really appreciate any of your thoughts or how you are going prepare your children for the arithmetic test.

    Many thanks,
