pre-prep head salary

Discussion in 'Independent' started by fluff-bunny, Feb 25, 2011.

  1. I have been working as Head of Pre-prep, within a Prep School, with responsibility for over 100 children and 16 staff. I am enjoying my role but feel undervalued in terms of my salary. I would be interested to hear what other people in a similar position are being paid, if anyone is happy to divulge. My position is predominantly non-teaching although I do teach each class, Nursery through to Year 2, for half an hour once a week.

My suggestion to you is that you work out, using the formula that is based on numbers of children and their key stage, what a maintained Head would get.

Or look in the ads in TES for a job with similar size school. It may say "Group 1", "Group 2", etc, and this means that the pay is in that range.
Having the maintained as a base, you can consider if classroom staff in your school are paid similar, more or less than the maintained sector, to get a feel for comparability.
However, since you are not actually the Buck Stops Here Head of a school, having the Prep Head over you, it could be argued that you should be earning a little less.
    Complicated, isn't it?
    Best wishes
