Practical maths help please

  1. Hey there,
How about 'making' a mixture of larger rocks/smaller rocks/ and soil and the children have to decide how to separate them then weigh them? You will have already weighed each type before you mix so that you know how much there is of each. See who can be the most accurate and careful when weighing them.
Or have a selection of 'precious rocks' (you could just paint some with different shiny paint) and the children have to weigh them in like a gold miner?
    Finding the area/perimeter of allotments?
Erm....can't think of anything else at the mo! : )

Sort using venn diargrams or carroll diagrams. Children choose and justify their own criteria.
  3. Thank you for replying Chocolatesprinkles and Minnieminx. I will use those ideas for my lot.
