Possible artists - 'Inside the Body'

Discussion in 'Art and design' started by mint_tea, Jul 11, 2011.

  1. Hi,
Updating my SoW's and would like to know if anyone could suggest any artists to look at for the theme 'Inside the body'. So far I can only think of very literal pieces such as Marc Quinn's Self. Not a 3D specialist but don't mind what the outcome is... Just hit a blank.

Oh, forgot to say - Sow I am devising is intended for GCSE group so would love to have suggestions of artists whose work gives a bit of a shock factor I guess.

    Grateful for any help!

    Thanks very much.

  3. We did a project a few years ago called 'inside outside'. Some work we we looked at included
    Katherine Dutiel - great photography
    Da Vinci
    Kahlo - broken column
Hirst - various sculptures including Hymn and Bartholomew
    Hope this helps

  4. Thanks! LOVE Katherine Dutiel images - very powerful. The German biologist was particularly resonating in my mind - his series were highly fascinating when they were shown a few years back - but I simply could not recall his name...

I have also come across an artist called Neil Rumming who, amongst other things, creates illustration-type images of sections showing interiors of biological structures, in case anyone else wants to develop a project using this theme.

  5. For the past few years, artists like Orlan and Stelarc have brought forward
a cultural discussion of the possibility of surpassing the human through
radical surgical intervention, through the interface between flesh and
electronics, or with robotic prostheses to complement and expand the potentiality
of the biological body. More than anticipate profound changes in perception,
in our conception of the world, and in the reorganization of our sociopolitical
systems, these pioneers foresee fundamental transformations in our species.
These transformations could conceivably alter our genetic code and reorient
    the Darwinian evolutionary process.

  6. These suggestions are fabulous. I really appreciate your help. Thank you all.
