Poetic Techniques - Repetition KS3

Discussion in 'English' started by Miss Flump, May 15, 2011.

  1. Hi Folks,
I'm a non-specialist who has just started a new SoW with my year 8 class on 'Poetry from Other Cultures'. They are a low-ability set with reading and spelling ages of under 10 years.
Within the scheme, we have to look at poetic techniques, of which I have been advised to teach them about onomatopoeia, alliteration and repetition.
I have successfully managed to plan lessons for the first two, but I'm stuck with repetition.
Can anyone help me with a starter and possible main activity for a lesson. I want them to understand about each technique individually before we start reading poems.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Miss Flump

Just thought I'd mention these resources that you might be interested for when you do come to look at poems:

(P.S. I've uploaded a copy of the Grace Nichols poem in this collection here: https://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/Poetry-From-Other-Cultures-6073017/ )
If I get any ideas about starters etc I'll come back to you.

  3. Thanks for the links. I'll have a gander shortly and if you can think of anything else, then that'd be great. [IMG]
