Pneumatics- technical help needed asap!

Discussion in 'Primary' started by Teacher1974, May 11, 2011.

  1. I've used two syringes, one on either end of the tube before. Use one to control the other - push one syringe in and the other pushes out.

basically syringes are good if you want to move or push thngs....but the pump action you require to drag air in and then pump it out like a bicycle pump is not their feature....unless you ger a sort of swtich to close the valve.Either way you still have to disconnect the syringe to fill it with air and then reconnect it.As an ex DT coordinator i would tend to advice you do a one way item.such as blow out a tounge or raise a hat.You can buy special values or kits but i dodubt your school will do this!
You can but specialised kits for the job and leggo have special bits that allow you to pump continueaslly.
here are some yr 3 work you might get ideas from

YR6 ar good at thinking through the solution.and tell them you are working together to overcome the problem.after all the learning is in overcoming the problem and knowing when to quit and leave till another time. The other year we had this with making moving cars...and the difficulties of connecting to axles.....butthe did it.with alittle help[IMG]

Ah yes Ok I understand now. I'm going to give the kids the option I think. I ordered a lot of syringes, so i'm going to say they can either borrow a pump and do a balloon one to lift the lid, or they can have 2 syringes and poke a tongue out or something. Hopefully there'll be an equal spread and I won't have to reorder lol! Thank you :)

Urgh, this just reminds me how awful that Moving Monsters unit is. Haven't touched it for years. Nobody seems to notice....
