Hi everyone happy half term. I'm a teacher with nearly 8 years experience and I can't believe I do not know the difference between these. I am currently completing the SCE application form and my mind has gone blank completely! The form requires both to be uploaded. I would really like to impress but do not want both letters/statements to be the same. Any advice needed or I'm hitting the hot chocolate! Thanks everyone

Happy half term to you too! The temperature is actually above freezing in London for the first time for a long time.
Now the difference is explained in the FAQs inside the Welcome thread. They will not be the same as a cover letter is very brief.
Do also look in general at my advice on writing applications - it is contained mainly in the shortlisting clickables inside the welcome thread here on this Forum.
For an effective application, you should send:
    • an application form with every bit filled in, no "See letter"
    • an application letter OR personal statement. Not both but certainly one of them.
    • a cover letter ONLY if you do a personal statement. See FAQs inside the Welcome thread
    • an Executive summary. If there's a space on the form, put it in there; if not, put it at the end of your letter so that it gets printed out automatically. The shortlisting clickables explain about this.
    Best wishes

I do Application and Interview one-to-ones, and also contribute to the Job Application Seminars. We look at application letters, executive summaries and interviews, with practical exercises that people really appreciate.
I shall be doing the Win That Teaching Job seminar on Saturday February 25th, and also the Moving into Headship or SLT seminar on Saturday 18th February (Although I believe that this is now full)
