Planning a skills-based primary art curriculum.

  1. Hi

I am a secondary Art AST and have done quite a bit of work with primary schools and yes I agree the theme seems to dictate the art outcome, rather than Art being aught as a subject in its own right.

Where are you in the country? I think I have a booklet I designed for *** here in Lincolnshire which each of our primaries received free - if I have a spare I could mail it to you... it shows progression through the ages in each aspect of art & design.

If you are not miles away I could even come and meet you to chat and plan together.

Hi Charli, thanks for the reply.

I'm in North Yorkshire. I'd be interested in taking a look at the booklet if possible.

I've also checked out the guidance for Lancashire County Council, which has a few documents showing development of skills across KS1, LKS2 and UKS2 - but no specific units.

  8. Hi, I know this conversation happened a few months ago but I stumbled across it whilst hunting for advice on the primary Art curriculum. This sounds exactly like what I'm tryng to set up too! I have just taken over the role of Art coordinator in a KS2-4 school and have identified the need for a skills based art curriculum across KS2. We discussed 6 areas to be taught every year: drawing, painting, collage, printing, textiles and sculpture. As a non specialist what I am now on the hunt for is a progression of skills document linked to levels so that we can clearly progress pupils skills across the key stage. As an art AST please could you point me in the right direction for this? Also if you know of any good links I could make down South that would be great, I'm based near Chichester in West Sussex. I haven't managed to find an art support type group yet! I am trying to change the whole art curriculum here but finding it tricky to know whats best. I've not been teaching long and as I said I am not an art specialist...
Sorry for long ramble, any advice would be fab! :)

  9. Hi,

  10. Hi, I am a primary school teacher and I have been made art coordinator. I am looking for a skills based scheme of work. Do you think the booklet would be useful to me or do you know where I can look? My email is cheri.thompson@hotmail.co.uk. Any help would be appreciated.

  11. Hi, I am a maternity cover in private school, planning for KS2. TES has great art and design skills in 6 areas. Look on Lanceshire County Council. They have added 7s area - Digital Media. Please link me if you find any more.
