Phrases that should be allowed in the classroom...

Is this serious? Do you really think the only keys to a successful life are being 'bright' or marrying well? Perhaps a new thread should be started 'Phrases to be used when confronted with teachers who insult pupils'. I'll start with "You're in the wrong job"

I have used that one in the classroom.....

 

It's ok-a friend said her daughter had a cover teacher at the local primary the other day who told the kids to 'Get lost!'. Same teacher then expected the kids to be polite to her-you can imagine the parental response!

 

I'm told that one teacher (Ms Anon) would like to wear a T-shirt in the class room that says:
'If you don't think this lesson's any good, I'll go out, then I'll be OUTSTANDING and you can try to teach subordinate clauses to a group with more issues than Vogue-and deal with their parents and clean up sick!'
Not sure how true it is, but I'm sure many people agree?

 

How on earth do people find threads from six years ago????????????

 

I say this a lot - I said it last week... to my own daughter! FML!

 

Unfortunately,this sarcasm is not just rude - it also shows the teacher's ignorance.
They are trying to show off but are just showing themselves up.

If the teacher wants the more formal usage, would they say, "No, you mayn't"?
Or, in past tense, would the teacher use, "Did I say you might go to the toilet?"?
Perhaps.
But "Can I...?" requesting permission is perfectly acceptable and understandable in educated English.
It has been for nearly a hundred years.

 

"Im getting too old for this ****"
"You're getting too old for this ****"
"You're old: If you're not getting this, you're ****"

 

freedom of speech used to be core to living in Britain, no more apparently.

A colleague once told a daydreaming child that he was on the planet Zog. He then wrote the history of the planet complete with zoglets, zogsters, zogmasters and zogspots.

 

What a wonderful piece of work! So clean! So pure! The paper so unsullied!
