Hi all, year 1 teacher here with an EYFS question. The ELGs for reading and writing include phonics but they are very general. What level of phonics constitutes ach (as in secure) ELGs? TIA

There isn't a hard and fast rule. However, I would assume that children should be reasonably secure with phase 3 in order to be levelled as "expected" against the ELGs. The examples given in the exemplification materials show that the child can use at least some consonant and vowel digraphs.

Both the reading and writing exemplifucation materials contain phase 4 words.
