I was also only on PGCE a few years ago and feel that the current PGCE students in my department are not being pushed as hard as I was and not as much is expected. I personally think this has more to do with the provider than anything else though...

Well I don't blame my PGCE student she is making good progress but has some serious issues to over come on the basic teaching skills. I have been setting targets some of which she works on succesfully but the provider in this case was way off. Also the Uni observer mentioned (in a joking way maybe?) that if I felt differently then it didn't matter.

The training standards are not the same as the standards for those with QTS

So you can get a good if 25-40% of the class make little/no progress.
