  1. hi everyone!! i have a PGCE mathematics interview in a few days and i have to prepare a written explanation of why the following rules work prior to the interview!!!

    Rule 1: to divide by a fraction, multiply by the reciprocal of the fraction

    Rule 2: Subtracting a negative is equivalent to adding

    Rule 3: Multiplying two negative gives a positive

    I know they work.....but im just not sure WHY they work. (BUT SURELY I CANT SAY THAT)

    any suggestions will be very much appreciated!
