Discussion in 'Workplace dilemmas' started by MrsNYH, Jul 22, 2011.

  1. hi everyone!! i have a PGCE mathematics interview in a few days and i have to prepare a written explanation of why the following rules work prior to the interview!!!

Rule 1: to divide by a fraction, multiply by the reciprocal of the fraction

Rule 2: Subtracting a negative is equivalent to adding

Rule 3: Multiplying two negative gives a positive

I know they work.....but im just not sure WHY they work. (BUT SURELY I CANT SAY THAT)

any suggestions will be very much appreciated!
