PGCE Interview, Edge Hill, Design and Technology

Discussion in 'Design and technology' started by garyrayworth, Nov 20, 2007.

  1. Hi everyone,

I have just recieved an interview for a PGCE ITT course for edge hill, and I have been asked to create a 5 min. presenation on 'an outline of my favourite design and technology activity/project'
I assume this to mean that i am to do a presentation on a personal project but has anyone got any tips or ideas on how to sell myself positivly, or any idea how the interview will be staged?

    Thanks

    Gary

  3. I don't know what they will ask you.

But you should think of a project you did at school and describe what it is.

Such a clock project. Where you are using a range of materials, craft techniques and maybe some cad/cam as well. Maybe it entails some design elements too, such as personalising the face to be suitable for a certain market.

What they are looking for is your enthusiasm to the subject i imagine. Maybe you can develop some sketches to show how things are designed and put together??

    Hope that helps.

  4. Hi garyrayworth
Don?t think I can help much with planning your interview but just wanted to let you know that I trained to teach technology at edgehill and it was the greatest experience of my life! The staff are all fab in the tech department especially the technicians. I'm sure they will make you feel welcome and put you at ease, my advice would be just to relax and enjoy the day.
Best of luck, I hope you get a place, nowhere else quite compares to edgehill!

  5. hey phuzz what year did you qualify at edge hill? i went there and loved it also! i think for my interview i had to take along something i had made at a-level and discuss why i enjoyed it etc...kind of hard as i had made it in art and wasnt really connected to dt but it wasnt scary at all, all very informal. that was about 7yrs ago now and i did the bsc qts course.

  6. jessie daisy,
i also did the BSC QTS course and remember my interview being similar and all very informal. i graduated 4 years ago. a friend of mine is now studying at liverpool so i fully intend to go and visit her so we can re-visit edgehill and the glory that is ormskirk!

  7. In my days at Liverpool Uni, Edge Hill was a PE teacher training college! Mind you, that was a long, long time ago. Good luck with the interview!

  8. Hi

I did the PGCSE, and didn't find it too good! All us who had done our degrees in textiles or food, had no support! The tutor/s were never ever in. We HAD to do a resistant materials course even though this was not our specialism. It was all just very random really!

Am sure it will be great for you though!

    Looloo

  9. thats would make you in my graduation class then phuzz! a little wierd! where are you working now?

  10. jessie daisy
how random! i'm now down south tecahing in southampton. how about you?

    looloo123
a friend of mine wanted to specialise in food and textiles and then moaned for 3 years that there was no support but when she went for her interview there was no evidence of a food room or a textiles studio so i think that should have rung alarm bells! anyhow, she eventually leant to love rm and graphics but with enough moaning we were sent to another college once a week for food trainning and they brought in a textiles tutor for us!

  17. well? How'd it go?!

  18. Hi

thanks for your msg's i think it went well, i had a good solid presentation and plenty of time to talk through my portfolio and explain my reasoning to want to be a teacher and have a general chat about the role etc, the gentleman who interviewed me seemed pleased as did the teacher from a local school! it was an enjoyable experience (for an interview)
i am anxious to hear the result! so fingers crossed!

  19. Well? Any news yet?

  20. Hello Gary! Can you remember any questions they asked you in the interview? I have the same one coming up ! Thanks
