PGCE Exeter 2012

Discussion in 'Thinking of teaching' started by hradbourne, Feb 7, 2012.

  1. Hi,
I've been accepted onto the PGCE Primary with Science Programme at Exeter Uni starting in September 2012. I was wondering if anyone else has been offered a PGCE place at Exeter? Also, does anyone have any advice on how to prepare and how to find accommodation when you don't live in Exeter.
    Thanks.

    No advice, but congratulations.

  4. Hi Hannah,
I'm also doing primary with science at Exeter in September. I'll be commuting in from South Somerset which I think will be interesting!
Not sure what preparation is needed either, I already work at a school as an LSA so am hoping not too much!

  5. Hi,

I've also been accepted onto a course starting in September - PGCE Primary with English. I'm just looking into accommodation now and have the exact same issue, living in Manchester it will be quite difficult for me to sort out a viewing. Have you looked on the studentpad website?

  6. Hey,
I'm also doing my PGCE Primary at Exeter but with English. I live in Taunton (about a half hour drive from Exeter), but not sure whether to find accommodation for the terms when we're at uni and not on placement! www.thestudentroom.com sometimes has people looking for others to houseshare, but not sure where else to look. Any advice would be gratefully received!

I am doing PGCE with Humanities, and also live in Taunton. I think you may be better waiting to see where your placements are before finalising accommodation. I hope, but do not know, we get told soon where we are. I am preparing by going through the suggested reading, and also bringing my maths and english up to scratch for the skills test.

  8. Hey I'm going to be going to Exeter in october too, to do secondary geography. I think waiting for placements is a good idea, although you can get 3 month housing contracts around the campus which are just available for pgce students. You can get a list by contacting the uni..I think it'll be easier to commute though then moving for such a short period of time! :)

Congratulations, you will have a wonderful time. I did the Early Years Specialism two years ago. I found accommodation using gumtree and various other room to let accommodation websites. There is not much prep to do apart from reading from a list of books they supply and some tests for self completion which are for you to evaluate your own subject knowledge.
