Persistent behaviour issues

So far this week, the behaviour of my year 7 and 8s has been shocking. Today I went to hand some detentions out and found the loud and rowdy year 7 group behaving perfectly.

I am going back to basics and writing a list of expectations, this will be laminated and placed on desks. Failure to meet them will result in a sanction.

I appreciate that this is late in the year and some pupils have probably got away with too much but how have others regained control in the classroom?

Any strategies would be great- at this stage I really want to be getting behaviour right.
