PE schemes of work for FS - KS2

Discussion in 'Primary' started by Nutty06, Feb 10, 2008.

  1. Hi everybody

Taken over as PE coordinator and part of what is needed is an overhaul of what is taught and in which year groups. Use Val Sabin but other staff are finding this boring. Is there anything else out there that others use that is more 'interesting' than Val Sabin and really helpful to use? Have very limited funds so if there is anything that is free or very cheap then that would be helpful. Many thanks.

We have LCP and as PE is one of my weaker subjects I find it very useful. The dance is especially good. I don't know what it would be like if you were a good PE teacher though so don't shoot me down!

  4. Hi Poppychick, thanks for that. It is something that can be specifically for non-specialists so really needs to be in a very easy to use and easy to follow format.

  6. The Durham scheme is v simple to use and follow.

  7. Tried to find a potential link for the Durham scheme but to no avail - any ideas? Thanks! Nutty would say thanks but she is asleep!

Ive tried to find durham stuff but to no avail!
Norfolk has some fab stuff! I have downloaded lots of their gym cards with teaching points which are pretty good. Have also downloaded gym SOW from some welsh website.

Most of these links relate to KS2 as KS1 refuse to move away from Val - they love her. Anything I suggested, they said Val was better! I didnt get on with the LCP scheme.

I did think that PE primary was worth looking at - £100 for yrs subscription and u could download all plans across the school. I got it in but I was the only one to use it!

Hope this may be of use. I do have an athletics SOW (indoor) for KS2 that may be of use??

  9. That's really useful. Thanks and I'll pass it onto Nutty. She is very lucky in that it is all staff that are wanting a change.

    Wish ours would!
I think ive done as much as I can with PE - just ICT and science to contend with now. That is gonna be so much fun!
Did u watch the match?? Pants in the second half!

  11. Sadly a pattern is beginning to emerge. First half good, second half bad! I know Italy upped their game and reduced the space they had but at the end of the day it should have been all over before then! At least Wilko silenced a few of the critics who said Cipriani should have been on from the start. He played like a strtled rabbit when he did come on!

  12. If you or anyone else is looking for a great PE resource for primary, i can highly recommend:

Physical Education - The essential toolkit for primary teachers. It has great ideas for all areas of the curriculum and they are already linked to QCA units of work.

    This link should work:

  13. re Durham PE scheme
We're on half term this week but I can have a look next week for a phone number or contact on the book.

  14. Many thanks for the links. KS - thanks for the offer. The plan is to have something new in place for September so just looking into it right now. The LCP seems ok but a tad expensive especially when got to replace basic equipment.

  15. We don't use the LCP stuff. I have taken elements of val sabin, durham, Another PE advisor called Brian Coates who does selection of PE schemes and stuff from courses such as tops or Specific games packs That I've collected eg. football FA stuff, Tag Rugby from Ruby union I think, LTA tennis booklets and bounceathan, High fives netball, Kwik cricket, Norwich union shine Awards for athletics etc. Try searching for these sites, I'm sure they still exsist. Also do you have a local sports college? Ours put us on several courses which we got packs from. In my scheme I give an outline and some possible activiteies then people can look up further stuff depending on needs of their class.

  16. Thanks for that advice. We do have an SSCO who is supposed to work alongside schools but on a scale of effectiveness they probably don't even score.
