Pretty much what the subject said, I'm being confused by terminology and pay, can anyone clarify?

Is a grade 3 on the salary scale the same being on a point 3?

I queried my salary recently and was was told what 'grade' I was and the salary correspond with the point below on the pay scale.

    Thanks for any help offered!

Teachers are paid according to their 'point' on the scale and I imagine the term 'grade' has been used because it's quite common for other payscales (council workers, nurses etc.).
